After the demise of the A-12 program, Northrop and all the existing airframe contractors started new programs to compete for the Navys next generation strike aircraft. As a young configurator I created this design for Northrop. Northrop built a wind tunnel model and we did some development work on this design. This program was a dead end and ultimately the Navy went down the JSF path instead of building a subsonic strike aircraft.
This airplane became known as the Arrowhead within Northrop circles. We built a wind tunnel model and did a basic work up on the design in the Northrop 7x10 subsonic wind tunnel in Hawthorne California. This was a picture that was published in the Northrop annual report.
